Infertility due to Management

  • Before buying or inducting an animal in the herd, the health status of the animal must get checked by a veterinarian.

  • Shed of the animal should be prepared scientifically to reduce the stress.

  • Overcrowding of the animals should be avoided.

  • Balanced feeding of green fodder and mineral mixture help in improving the fertility.

  • Vaccinate the animals at proper time to prevent the onset of diseases which affect the fertility status of the rule.

  • Should allow only trained personnel to inseminate the animal because untrained inseminator increases the risk of damaging reproductive organs and also results in low conception rate.

  • Check whether the animal's shed is prepared scientifically or not.

  • Must organize training camps for the farmers to sensitize and train them about the importance of scientific management of the herd.

  • Should advise the farmers about the management of animals feed and fodder during off season.

  • Should conduct surveys to understand the reasons for infertility in the area or region and inform the authorities so that a proper road map may be developed to increase the fertility status of the animals.

  • To address the issue of AI failure, the semen straws should be procured from the certified semen station centres, and should be maintained as per the standard protocols.

  • AI should be done by trained professionals to prevent the damage to reproductive organs.

  • Advanced scientific knowledge should be used to identify the root causes of infertility.

  • The technologies like synchronization of estrus, ultrasonography, microbial culture and antibiotic sensitivity test for diagnosis etc. will also help in improving fertility status.

  • May send the blood sample of the animal for laboratory test to identify the nutritional and disease status of the animals. High blood urea level also causes low conception rate.

  • Should also rule out other nutritional factors like nitrate concentration in the fodder/water of animals, vitamin deficiency due to the anti-nutritional factors present in the feed popularly used in the area.

  • Should check or enquire about the feeds and fodders used by the farmer or dairy farm to understand, if there is any nutritional deficiency like Vitamin A, D and especially, Vitamin E and minerals like Mg, Cu, Mn, Ca etc.
