About the App

GADVASU- Reproductive Management and Practices App has been designed and developed by College of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, India.

Cattle and buffalo are the farm animals that helped India in achieving the aim of white revolution by contributing in the milk production. India is the largest milk producer (209.96 million tonnes) in the world and contributes 23% of the global milk production. Milk production in India has grown at compounded annual growth rate of 6.9% from 2014-15 to 2020-21. In order to sustain the milk production and growth rate, animal reproduction and its management are to be addressed at national level. Animal reproductive management failure causes huge economic losses to the farmers in terms of reduced milk production and health expenses. According to a recent estimate, reproductive problems in female alone causes economic loss in Assam and Bihar to the tune of INR 3963.1 million and INR 30,500.0 million, respectively. Reproductive failure in the female is also attributable to the low fertility of the bull due to poor quality of semen, poor handling and storage of semen, poor technique of artificial insemination and infectious disease affecting the bull.

This app has been developed to help the students of veterinary degree programmes, field veterinary officers, livestock assistants (or para-veterinarians), farmers and livestock entrepreneurs about reproductive disorders in female cattle and buffaloes and their management. Major reproductive issues of female cattle and buffaloes discussed in the app are estrus and pregnancy diagnosis; repeat breeding, anestrus, retention of placenta, and infertility due to diseases. The app also covers topics on male reproduction management like bull management, handling and storage of semen, artificial insemination and infectious disease affecting the bull.
